Closure of Chowdene Bridge from 26 October 2015
The ongoing roadworks at Chowdene Bridge will come to an end on the evening of Friday 26 February, and will result in all bus services, including Loop services 93 and 94 returning to their normal route from the morning of Saturday 27 February.
From Monday 26 October, the railway bridge at Chowdene will be closed for 4 months as the bridge is being replaced.
There will be pedestrian access over the railway line during the closure as a temporary footbridge is to be constructed. During the closure, the stops at Salcombe Gardens on Chowdene Bank won’t be served and the Sainsbury’s stop on Chowdene Bank will only be served by a shuttle service which connects with the LOOP 93/94 routes.
Unfortunately, buses will have to be diverted to avoid the closed road and this will have an impact on these services.
Coaster 1A
- Our evening Coaster 1A journeys to/from Kibblesworth will be diverted from the Gold Medal Roundabout via Hertford, Woodford and Smithy Lane to Lamesley Church and then resume their usual route.
LOOP 93/94
- Buses on the 93 will divert from the Gold Medal Roundabout via Saltwell Road South, Station Road and Eastern Avenue to rejoin the usual route at Kingsway North. Afternoon peak time journeys that start at Team Valley Marquis Way and run to Gateshead Interchange will be running on their usual route.
- Buses on the 94 will run on their usual route down Kingsway North and then divert via Eastern Avenue, Station Road and Saltwell Road South to rejoin the usual route at the Gold Medal Roundabout. Morning peak time journeys that terminate at Team Valley Marquis Way will be running on their usual route from Gateshead Interchange.
- We will be running a free shuttle bus from Eastern Avenue to Sainsbury’s at Team Valley South so that customers can still access the stops on Kingsway South, Marquis Way and at Sainsbury’s. Buses on the 93/94 routes will stop at The Gold Medal and Eastern Avenue on their diversionary routes.

Waggonway 28A
- Our Waggonway 28A route will divert from the A1 Team Valley junction via Kingsway South, Eastern Avenue and Station Road to Saltwell Road South and then continue on its usual route to Gateshead and Newcastle. Buses will stop at all stops on the diversionary route. Customers on Saltwell Road South on the section between the Gold Medal Roundabout and Station Road should use the LOOP 93/94 for journeys to Gateshead.
Nexus Bus 29
- This service will be diverted from Lamesley Church via Smithy Lane and Woodford to rejoin its usual route at Hertford. Customers travelling from Kibblesworth to Sainsbury’s are advised to catch the Waggonway 28A and use the bus stops at the South end of Kingsway South.
Service 92
- Buses on this route will run on their usual route to Harlow Green and will divert from Hertford via Trafford, Smithy Lane and Lamesley Road to the A1 Team Valley junction where it will return to its normal route to Team Valley North End. Afternoon buses from Team Valley will be diverted via Smithy Lane and Trafford.
School buses 831, 832 & 838
- Our school bus services will be diverted from the Gold Medal Roundabout via Saltwell Road South, Station Road and Eastern Avenue with buses rejoining their usual route on Kingsway North.
We will be working hard to keep any disruption to services to a minimum and we'd like to apologise for any delays to your journeys that the diversions will cause.
