As the clock ticked over to a new month at 00:01 on Tuesday 1st September, bus operator Go North East put into service what is believed to be the UK’s first 70 plate bus as the new registration mark period started.
Go North East, the region’s largest bus operator, is set to introduce a major upgrade to its express X9 and X10 routes, that run between Middlesbrough and Newcastle via the A19, serving Stockton, Norton, Billingham, Peterlee, Dalton Park, Heworth and Gateshead.

Go North East, the region’s largest bus company, is upgrading its X45, X46 and X47 services that soar through red kite country, serving Consett, Rowlands Gill, Metrocentre and Newcastle, with buses running directly up to every 10 minutes.
The day has finally come... we now have our open-top buses out running on some of our normal bus routes to spread some sunshine cheer and happiness, and fresh air upstairs, amongst the travelling public of the North East.
Go North East, the region’s largest bus company, is undertaking a trial of a full electric Optare MetroCity single deck bus on its services around Newcastle and Gateshead, including the Saltwell Park 53 and 54, CityLink 57 and Quaylink Q3.
Following the opening of more leisure venues and working in partnership with Nexus, the evening frequencies on some services will be increased. The majority of these will increase from 18 July, with some further increases from 25 July.
Team members wore blue casual clothing in place of their usual uniform to champion NHS staff and fellow key workers, with the loudest clapping yet taking place at 5pm around the region, including some of the North East’s favourite attractions.
Go North East, the region’s largest bus company, will resume the running of its AD122 Hadrian’s Wall Country Bus from tomorrow (Saturday 4 July) to help support the opening of businesses and attractions.
Go North East is the first bus operator in the North East to join the scheme, which has also been adopted in the region for travel by rail operator LNER and Newcastle Airport, helping people with ‘hidden’ conditions such as autism, hearing loss and multiple sclerosis.
As the country begins to emerge from restrictions on travel, work and shopping, Go North East, the region’s largest bus operator, has been accredited with ‘Good to Go’, a new UK-wide tourism industry standard and consumer mark from VisitBritain.
From Saturday 4 July, we’ll be increasing our weekend services, whilst also maintaining the early morning key worker journeys we’ve been running, to help support the opening of more shops, pubs and some leisure businesses.
