Youngsters get easier bus access
To make it easier for under-16s to use our buses, they now no longer need to present a Get Around card when buying a single ticket.
Our customers told us that having to have a Get Around card was preventing some children who wanted to use our buses, particularly for one-off journeys, from doing so.
Children aged between 5 and 16 and those aged 16 - 19 who look their age or are wearing a school uniform are no longer required to present a Get Around card for a single fare.
However, this new rule only applies to single tickets. Anyone who is aged 5 - 21 still needs to have a Get Around card if they are buying a 7-day, monthly or annual ticket.
Kevin Carr, managing director, said: “We are continually reviewing our customers’ experiences in order to improve them.
“We did a trial of this new policy in Sunderland recently and it worked well so we have rolled it out to all of our services in all areas.”
